INTRODUCTION

The IIA State Awards for Excellence in Architecture was instituted by The Indian Institute of Architects, Kerala Chapter in the year 2006 to recognize excellent architectural works in Kerala and to create awareness among general public. The Awards are presented annually and carry a Memento & Citation for each winning entry.

CATEGORIES FOR AWARDS

1. RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS – A Single Family Dwellings, Bungalows, Villas, Mansions, Farm houses etc.

2. RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS – B Multi-Family Dwellings, Group Housing, Multi-Storied Apartments, Gated Communities etc.

3. INTERIOR PROJECTS – RESIDENTIAL

4. INTERIOR PROJECTS – NON RESIDENTIAL

5. INSTITUTIONAL Campuses, Public and Semi Public Buildings, Commercial, Multiplex, Offices, Medical, Hospitals, Clinics, Religious, Social, Cultural, Sports, Open Spaces, Pavilions etc.

6. HOSPITALITY Hotels, Resorts, Home Stay.

7. PRODUCT DESIGN and ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS

8. SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS All Buildings designed and built with Efficiency in material and energy as priority. And socially responsible architecture.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPANTS

A. Participant must be a resident Indian architect(s)/architectural firm engaged in the profession of Architecture.

B. Participant must be a member in good standing & without any dues of the IIA Kerala Chapter

C. Participant must have a valid registration with the Council of Architecture, India

D. Members of the Jury, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Honorary Joint Secretaries of the IIA Kerala Chapter, and the Award Convener or concerns are not permitted to participate in these Awards

E. In case an entry is made by a Firm / Team, the above stipulations shall apply to the Principal architect of the Firm / person so nominated by The team, who signs the documents as required under the ‘Application for entry and declaration’.

F. The submitted entry (project) must have been executed within the state of Kerala.

G. The submitted entry in all categories must be completed within the last five years.

H. Projects that have received an IIA Kerala Chapter, State Awards for Excellence in Architecture during any previous years are not eligible for entry in the same category Again.

 EVALUATION & JURY

A. The Jury shall consist of three eminent architects from outside the State of Kerala, India.

B. The Jury would first short list the entries in each categor y and thereafter if found necessary & feasible, visit the project / buildings for verification & evaluation. In such case, it is the responsib ility of the participant architect/firm to grant/ procure the necessary permissions / permits needed for the Jury to freely access & visit the submitted project premises/building at the time & date intimated to them by the IIA Kerala Chapter/Jury. Failure to provide such access can lead to disqualification of the entry.

C. The Jury may decide not to award a prize in one or more category at their discretion.

D. Members of the Jury for the ‘IIA Kerala Chapter – State Awards for Excellence in Architecture 2016’ are appointed by the IIA Kerala Chapter for the said event only.

E. The term of any Jury member shall not exceed two consecutive years.

F. The Jury can be by majority opinion remove any entry from the evaluation process.

G. Decisions, deliberations, opinions and proceedings of the Jury shall not be made public or otherwise revealed.

H. Decision of the Jury shall be\final and without appeal and shall be binding on all participants.I. Any member of the Jury can propose an amendment in ‘Procedure of Conduct’ of the IIA State Awards for Excellence in Architecture 2016. However, such proposals will only be considered for incorporation in the Awards of the subsequent year as decided by the Executive Committee of the IIA Kerala Chapter.

FORMAT FOR SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES

A. There is no entry fee for submission.

B. All Entries shall be submitted along with the applicable ‘Application
for Entry for IIA State Awards for Excellence in Architecture 2016’.

C. Participants can send any number of entries for each category.
Downloads of applicable ENTRY FORM can be used.

D. Separate set of Entry Form & mandatory enclosures shall be
submitted for each entry ( Project )

E. Further, separate sets of entry form & mandatory enclosures shall be
submitted for each entry ( Project ) if participating in more than one Category.

F. Mandatory enclosures along with entry form:

i) Two sets of drawings, sketches & photographs of the project to
be presented on four standard A2 sized paper sheets (300 gsm)
only. Presentation can be in B&W or color.

ii) A Three minute video describing the project can be included
without revealing identity of the entrant. Format shall be MP4/mov
with resolution not more than 1920×1080 pixels.

iii) Two sets of a Report Document [in not more than 250 words]
giving relevant project details explaining the concept, context,
designs, details, constrains, innovations, solutions and any special
interventions etc. Construction technologies applied, presented on
standard white A4 paper in typed/printed text (Black Arial font of size 12)

iv) Soft copies of the presentation sheets A2 size are also to be included for the purpose of the exhibition.

v) Two sets of documents stating resume (signed & sealed) of the participant (architect) along with one passport size photo.
In case the entry is in the name of a firm the same must be submitted for the principal/lead architect(s) of the project along with details of the firm.

vi) Softcopy of i, ii, iii & iv above are to be submitted as a CD. Incomplete submissions will not be considered for the award.

G. Name of participating architect/firm MUST NOT be displayed/marked or implied on ANY SET of the sheet / documents mentioned in i, ii & iii above, failing of which will disqualify the entry.

H. The applicant MUST clearly mention the unique registration number (Arial font of size 18) on bottom right corner of all the sheets / documents mentioned in i, ii & iii above.

I. Declaration (must be signed & sealed) once Signed, the participant states that the project conforms to relevant building bylaws and development conditions applicable at the time & place in been case

and further that no action is pending against the said project in any statutory authority concerned with the project.

J. All entries must be clearly marked ‘IIA Kerala Chapter – State Awards for Excellence in Architecture 2016’ and sent to:

K. All entries must be sent in sealed packing so as to reach the above address on or before on or before 4pm on 2nd March 2017.
L. While utmost care will be taken of all entries received, Kerala Chapter will not be responsible for any loss or damage to the entry / entries while in transit or while in their possession.
M. Entries having insufficient/incorrect information or enclosures may not be displayed for jury at the discretion of the Convener.
N. Submission of entries to these Awards confers upon the Awards Committee of the IIA Kerala Chapter, the right to exhibit any of the entries [and their contents] at any forum of IIA or to print or publish
the same (in part or full) in any brochure, bulletin, journal or magazine as decided by the IIA without the need to seek prior permission from the architect And/or owner of the project.

GENERAL GUIDELINES & RULES

A. The IIA Kerala Chapter State Awards for Excellence in Architecture will be presented annually at the IIA Kerala Chapter award ceremony or any other suitable event.

B. Presentation of an Award to any entry in no way legalizes its status. If the project (i.e. an Award winning project) is involved in any revenue dispute or in violation of any statutory laws /regulations at subsequent time, the said award has no legal standing or validity in such dispute / Violation

C. The management of these Awards is entirely based on the bonafide personal declaration duly signed & stamped by Architect / Firm along with the Entry Form.

D. If prior to the actual presentation of the Award, any such violation comes to the notice of the Organizers (i.e. IIA Kerala Chapter) along

with documentary evidence or in case any of information declared is found to be incorrect/invalid, the organizers reserve the right to
withdraw / cancel the Entry, in consultation with Jury

E. Categories with insufficient entries are liable to be cancelled

F. Posthumous Award: In case of death of an individual (whose project is selected for the Award) prior to actual presentation of Award, the organizers may present the Award posthumously.

G. The IIA Kerala Chapter reserves the right to make amendments / additions /deletions to the ‘Procedure of Conduct’ for the ‘IIA Kerala

Chapter – State Awards for Excellence in Architecture’ as a whole at any stage of the Award process. Any such changes shall be binding o

all Participants

 PRESENTATION OF THE AWARDS

A. Based on entries received, the Jury at its discretion can choose to award Gold Leaf Award or Silver Leaf award or no Award at all in each category.

B. The awards are to be given to an individual architect. In case an entry is submitted by a Team / the Firm, the award shall be
given to the Principal architect of the Team / Firm or to a person so nominated by the Team / Firm. However, names of team of
architects can be mentioned in Citation and/or on the trophy if so desired by Principal Architect /Team nominee / firm, provided the
same is informed to the IIA Secretariat at least one week prior to the Awards by Presentation Programme.

C. All entries will be published in the official website ofthe Indi an Institute of Architects, Kerala Chapter, www.iiakerala.org.

D. If the winner of an award for whatsoever reason cannot be present at the Awards presentation Programme, a nominee can receive the award on his/her behalf with prior confirmation.

E. All short listed entries may be exhibited at the Award Presentation Function at the discretion of the organisers.

REGISTRATION FOR AWARDS / IMPORTANT DATES

A. Entries with Unique registration number only will be accepted.

B. Members can register for the awards online at www.iiakeralaawards.com
and generate the unique ID.

07-02-17 – Online registration begins
02-03-17 – Last date for receiving entries
08-04-17 – Award Ceremony
